Marielle's Scribe Post

Homework Booklet 4.3 Percent of a Number

4. What is the percent of each number? Give your answer to the nearest hundredth.

a) 1/5% of 630 To convert fraction to a decimal, divide numerator by denominator. 1 divide it by 5 = 0.2%. 0.2% is still a percent, to make that a decimal you have to divide it by a hundred. 0.2% divide it by 100 = 0.002. Then, multiply it by the number (100%). 0.002 x 630 = 1.26.

b) 23 7/8 of  300  7 divide it by 8 = 0.875, 23.875 divide it by 100 = 0.23875, 0.23875 x 300 = 71.625

c) 245% of 356.80 I found two 100%, 25% and two 10%

d)68 3/4 % of 730 3 divide it by 4 = 0.75, 68.75 divide it by 100 = 0.6875, 0.6875 x 730 = 501.88.

e) 360% of 129.95 I found three 100%, 50%, and 10%.

6. Table salt is a chemical compound of sodium and chlorine. Recomended daily intake is about 1700 mg. If Canadians consume 182% of this amount on average, how much sodium is one person eating daily?

*A person takes 1700 mg table salt, but a Canadian takes 182% of it. How much miligram of sodium do one canadian consume?

182% of 1700 - 3044 miligram of sodium per person.

  1. Great Job Marielle. I liked how you used lots of colour. You even showed us how you got your answer and explained it in words too. For 4 d) did you just write the rounded answer or was that your real answer? I got 501.875 but when it's rounded it's 501.88. In question 6, isn't it suppose to be 3094 mg that one person eats daily? Isn't 1700+850+510+17+17=3094?. Anyway you did a awesome job!

  5. Good job Marielle! I liked how you added colour to your text, and pictures! it definitely made everything look much more fun and eye catching. I also liked how you used pictures to explain what you were doing and even converted the fractions to decimals and percents! That was very helpful because if you didn't, I wouldn't know what the actual calculation of the percent would be. Using your own pictures show that you didn't just copy it off from Google. I agree with Jennifer, I got the same answer for 4 d) on how I got 501.875 but were you rounding or was that the actually answer? Anyways, I found your video helpful, especially since I'm watching more videos about that and now I'm actually getting it. Your game was very fun too. Keep it up! (:

  13. Good Job, Marielle! I apologize for commenting late, I had some issues. I liked how you used color to match both your pictures and your explanation (typed). Also your video was very good. Even if he didn't mention about dividing the percentage by 100 to make it out of 1, it was still on our level because he used another way (which may be easier for some people). If you like, for 4a) (somewhere around 100%) you can add on "the whole number". Also, instead of saying *3* 100% you can just say 300%. Otherwise, Great Job!
