4.) Estimate the square root of each number, to one decimal. Check with a calculator.
a.) 72

b.) 103

c.)55

17.) Carmel wants to mount an 18 cm x 18 cm square picture on a square board that is four times the area of the picture.
a.) What is the area of the picture?
b.) What is the area of the board?
c.) What are the dimensions of the board?
10.)
Kai uses an entire can of paint on a square backdrop for the school play. The label on the can states that can states that one can covers 27cm2 of the wall surface. Estimate the backdrop's side lenght, to one decimal place.

Video:

1. Answer in a short paragraph and with diagrams

Relationship between the sides of a right triangle. A right triangle is any triangle that has one right internal angle. Pythagoras stated, if the length of the legs (smallest side) are squared and their sum is found, the sum will equal to the square of the hypotenuse ( longest side).
2. Solve for the missing side length.

3. Is this a right triangle? Prove it!!!

9. A herd of 100 caribou was moved to a new location. The population increased by 10% the first year and then increased by 20% the second year.
a.) Find the population after the second year.

The population after two years is 132 caribou.
b.) Explain why there was not a 30% increase in population over the two years.

The increase is not 30% because the 20% increase in the second year is based on the new population after 10% increase in the first year.

Joy's Pay it Forward

Part 1:
Pay it Forward is about this boy named, Trevor had an assignment for the whole year. Is try to make difference. Trevor came up. To help three people then they help other three people and just pass it on. Trevor tried 3 different people his friend, a stranger and, his teacher but it didn't work at all. And in the end Trevor died because he saved his friend's from bullying. Then Trevor ideas just pass on.

Part 2:
My act of kindness I tried to clean the school side walk and I donated candy and other stuff for the children's hospital with 2 people. I choose to donate for the children's hospital because me and the other people decided that after Halloween we can donate our candy instead of eating it and buy some if there's not enough candy and just bought some stuff. And we decided to clean the side walk of the school because we decided some other stuff but we decided we could clean the side walk instead. I help children who has cancer and other sickness and we help to clean the school. We bought some candy and stuff then put it to a little plastic and for the side walk we just bring gloves and garbage bag. I did my act of kindness at November 14 2:00 pm and Monday after school we went to give the donation.

Part 3:
My act of kindness was good the lady from the children's hospital was so nice to us and she was so great full for us donating and she give us a certificate for helping out. When we went to the hospital they said it was really helpful to help them out and for the school side walk I just did my job. I felt when I was doing pay it forward I was really proud of myself because I made a difference at least, and so happy like what I did. The lady from the hospital was so shock because we donate a lot of things to help the children. We ask the lady from the children's hospital to Pay it Forward and just talk about it. When we requested the lady acted happy because were helping them for the children's hospital.
Part 4:
I think Pay it Forward is a really good idea because it could help a lot of people starting with one. My act of kindness made a difference for the community and for the children.

Joy's Graph Post

1.) Use your notes to list the different types of graphs. Please list the advantages and disadvantages of each graph?

Bar Graph:
The advantage is for comparing data across categories. The disadvantage is it's difficult to see the exact number.
Line Graph:
The advantage is it shows changes in data over time. The disadvantage it doesn't really the work with the numbers.
Circle Graph:
The advantage is for comparing categories to the whole using percents. The disadvantage it's takes to long and too hard to create it.
Double Bar Graph:
The advantage is for comparing two sets of data cross categories. The disadvantage is depending the numbers that you choose will not work.
Pictograph:
The advantage is for comparing data that can be easily counted and represented using symbols. The disadvantage it's hard to use the symbols to determine the number.

2.) How graph can be misleading. Show 3 ways.

2a.) The following chart shows Pizza Sub Sales over a month. What 2 graphs would show the information accurately?

2b.) If you were selling Pizza Subs would you continue? How does your graph explain your answer.
Yes I would continue, because both graph shows the sales is going higher.

4.) Below you see 2 different examples of graphs showing healthy choices sold at the canteen. If you had to convince Mrs Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices which graph would you choose?

I would show Mrs. Mota the line graph, because the sales are really going up every week.
4a.) Change each graph so that your information looks even MORE impressive. You may not change the data just the graphs.

Make the interval of the line graph smaller.

Joy's Proportion Post

Ratio: A relationship between two numbers of the same kind.

Rate: A comparison of two quantities measured in different units.
Ex.
Car drives 3 hours and goes 300km. How far does it go in 1 hour ?

Proportion: An equation which states that two ratios (fractions) are equal.

1. 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about _____ mph
Answer: 72 miles

2. As a playground worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?
3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32

Using Proportion Video:

1. Does this seem fair?
-No it isn't
2. With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just and fair? Why have you made this choice?
- No because the guy steal $3 billion and he only has to do 40- month sentence and the other guys stole $100 dollars and goes to jail for 15 years. So it doesn't really make since he took 100 and his going to spend 15 years in jail but the other guy stole 3 billion and just have to do 40 month sentence so it doesn't really make sense .
3. What would you have done if you were the judge?
- If I were the judge I would do it another way like the guy who stole the 3 billion goes to jail for 15 years and the other guy who stole 100 dollars would do 40- month sentence.
