Angelika's Volume Post

a) Triangular Prism:
V= 4x3÷2xh
V=12/2
V=6cm2= A of B
V=6cm2x10cm=60cm3

b) Rectangular Prism:
V= lxwxh

V=8cmx6cmx10cm
V=480cm3

EXTRA QUESTION:
It is 1/3 Full
V=lxwxh
V=10cmx5cmx12cm
V=600cm3
600/3= 200cm3

Cylinder:
V= Pi x r2 x h
V= 3.14 x 5 x 5 x 10
V= 785cm3

AREA OF A CIRCLE:
Pi x r2
A=3.14 x 52
A=3.14 x 25

A= 78.5cm2

Angelika's Pythagorean Relationship Post

Explain The Pythagorean Relationship
1) Can be used to determine the lenth of a hypotenuse of the right triangle when two lents of the two legs are known.
2) The sum of the areas of squares attached to the legs of a right triangle equals the area of the square attached to the hypotenuse.
3) It's also the relationship between the lenths of a right triangle.

Is This A Right Triangle? Prove It!
a2+b2=c2

64+36=100
(8x8)
(6x6)(10x10)
No, it's not a right triangle because 64+36=100 not 121 (11x11)
So it's not equal.
Add Image

Solve The Missing Lenth
12cm and 5cm
a2+b2=c2
12cm+5cm=17cm
c+17cm

Answers to today's questions.

Today in math we learned about converting decimals to fractions and percents. and converting percents to fractions then decimals.

We have two examples of each.
The first one is converting a decimal to a fraction and a percent.
(Decimal,Fraction,Percent)
0.0064 x 100 = 0.64 64/10 000 or 64/100%
0.268 x 100= 268 or 0.268/1000 or 268/100
5.98x100=598% or 598/100 or 598/100%

And the second example is converting a percent to a fraction then a decimal.

75% fraction: 7 1/2 decimal: 7.5
0.3% fraction: 3/1'000 decimal: 0.003
12 3/4% fraction: 1275/10'000

REMINDER :

to convert decimals to percents use hundred grids or multipaction

and to convert percents to decimals use divison.

Angelika's Pay It Forward

PART1
Pay it forward is a movie that we grade 8 had to watch. The movie is about a kid named Trevor that his class was asked to think an idea that could change the world and put it into an action.So Trevor's idea was to help three people that but it has to be hard something that they cant do by there selves and they have to do it by three other people so it will be like a big chain .Instead of getting something nice in return they have to pass the act of kindness to other people .It is like starting with me and passed on to other people so it gets larger and larger .It was possible that one small idea actually made a large difference in the world and even now the movement is still going on we could make a difference by doing something kind to others or just paying it forward.

PART2
My act of kindness was going too the Siloam Mission and donating clothes with my grandfather. I think it went really well, because they were so happy and inshock that at just the right time we donated. I felt really proud of myself, but at the same time sad about what I saw. I know I made a difference in someone's life. and I hope I did. seeing things that make me sad or cry isn't always the best. But makes me realize ' wow I am lucky too be where I am, free education! some children don't have or know what it is..' so PAY IT FORWARD.
PART3
My act of kindness went very well. I went to the Siloam Mission about two weeks ago with my grandfather and we donated clothes for the less fortunate. It was the most scariest and saddest expierences I had in awhile. They were happy and grateful we brought things, they were running out since people haven't been donating clothes for awhile. Unfortunatley I was not allowed too take a picture, due too personal and security reasons. I would have gotten one if I was allowed.

PART4
Pay It Forward is important because people need too know, there are children and people in the world that are the ' less fortunate' and they need help. and doing it too be nice, and generous expecting nothing in return. it can make a difference. I think my kindess and donate helped and made a difference because people do not always have clothing.. due too personal reasons, and the Siloam Mission was running out of clothes. I didn't see children.. but believe me, I know there is children there sometimes. making a difference for somebody makes me feel better about myself and more generous. That's who I want to be. and I will keep on doing the things I do. Being nice. that's what ' pay it forward' is all about. so Pay It Forward.

Angelika's Graph Post

Bargraph
Advantage: Is best for comparing data across categories
Disadvantage: It's hard to determine the actual number

Double Bar Graph
Advantage: Is best comparing two sets of data across categories
Disadvantage: It's difficult to know the exact number

Line Graph
Advantage: Best for showing changes in data over time
Disadvantage: The exact amounts aren't clear depending on the scale

Pictograph
Advantage: It's best for data that can be easily counted
Disadvantage: You can only use pictograph if the data is even

Circle Graph
Advantage: Best for comparing categories to whole using percent
Disadvantage: You have to multiply to determine the number

How a graph can be misleading?
1: Break in the y axis
2: Making one bar larger
3: Changing the colour of a bar
4: Making one 3D

3.a What two graphs would you use?
Line Gtaph & Bar Graph
It would show the Pizza Subs sale over time

3b
If you were selling Pizza Subs would you continue?
I would continue it shows the sales getting higher and higher over time

4).
Below you see 2 different examples of graphs showing healthy choices sold at the canteen. If you had to convince Mrs. Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices which graph would you choose?
I would choose the line graph because it shows Mrs.Mota that it goes higher and higher over time. If you choose the pictograph you have too count and count until you find the exact amount.

4a).
Change the graph, to make it look more impresive. you may not change the data.

Angelika Proportion Post

  • ratio: It shows a relative size of two or more values.

  • rate: A comparison of two quantities measured in different units, Example: 1.69 Per 100 grams or 1.69 / 100 g is a rate for purchasing bulk food. 72 beats per minute is a heart rate.

  • proportion: An equation that says two ratios or two rates are equal.

  • 1: 5 Hours too travel 360 miles is about ___ mph.

  • 2: As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup 25 ml too 100 ml, how much should I increase the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

Answer to number 1 :

Hours 5 1

_____ _____ = ______

Miles 360 72 (divide by 2 top & bottom)

Answer to number 2:

apple 25ml 100ml

_____ ______ = _____

orange 50ml 200ml ( multiply by 4 for top & bottom again) increase 50ml to 200ml

3: What is 3 ways you can prove equavalent ratio statements are true?

Diagonally ( top left too bottom right), Horizontally, Vertically.

5:

Does this seem fair?

No it isn't .

With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does he seem just & fair? Why have you made this choice?

It isn't fair because the CEO gets 40 month sentence for 3billion dollars fraud!! and a homeless man steals 100$ and gets a 15 year sentence!! it isn't fair at all!!

What would you do if you were the judge?

I would probably give him about 1 or 2 weeks sentence then he is free too go .
