1. Use your notes to list the different types of graphs. Please list the advantages and disadvantages of each graph.
Bar Graphs: Bar graphs are best for comparing data across categories.
Bar Graphs: Bar graphs are best for comparing data across categories.
Advantage - its really easy to see and the best for comparing data across categories.
Disadvantage- can't really see the exact numbers of the bar graph
Double Bar Graphs: Double bar graphs are best for comparing two sets of data across categories.
Disadvantage- can't really see the exact numbers of the bar graph
Double Bar Graphs: Double bar graphs are best for comparing two sets of data across categories.
Advantage- you can compare two sets of data at the same time.
Disadvantage - you can't see the exact number of the double bar graph sometimes.
Disadvantage - you can't see the exact number of the double bar graph sometimes.
Circle Graphs: Circle graphs are best for comparing categories to the whole using percents. The sum of the percent in a circle graph is 100%
Advantage- are great for showing percentages of the whole
Disadvantage- sometimes hard to find the percents for each number.
Disadvantage- sometimes hard to find the percents for each number.
Pictograph: Are best for comparing data that can be easily counted and represented using symblos.
1st picture is a LINE GRAPH
2nd picture is a PICTOGRAPH
Advantage-easy to read ,visually appealing, handles large data sets easily using keyed icons
Disavantage-Hard to quantify partial icons, icons must be of consistent size, best for only 2-6 categories.
Line Graphs: Line graphs are best for showing changes in data over time.
Disavantage-Hard to quantify partial icons, icons must be of consistent size, best for only 2-6 categories.
Line Graphs: Line graphs are best for showing changes in data over time.
Advantage-Can compare multiple continuous data sets easily
Disadvantage-Use only with continuous data
2. How can graphs be misleading. Show 3 ways.
-When you distort the visual. How you mess up a pictograph.
-Breaking in y-axis creates a bad interval.
-When you distort the size of your bars.
2a. The following charts shows pizza subs sale of a month. What 2 graphs would show the information accurately

- I would use a line graph best its best for showing changes in a data over time.
-I would also use a bar graph because it will be easy to see how much pizza subs they sold.
2b. If you were selling pizza subs would you continue? How does your graphs explain your answer?
-I would also use a bar graph because it will be easy to see how much pizza subs they sold.
2b. If you were selling pizza subs would you continue? How does your graphs explain your answer?
-I would continue selling it because it shows that every week they are selling more and more pizza subs.
4. Below you see 2 different examples of graphs showing healthy choices sold at the canteen. If you had to convince Mrs Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices which graph would you choose?

-I would pick the pictograph because it looks like there was a big improvment from September- November.
4a) Change each graph so that your information looks even MORE impressive. You may not change the data just the graphs.
For the pictograph I would make each of the hearts worth 2 because it would look more impressive.
For the line graph I would make the intervals go up by 1 becuase it would look more impressive.
