Abby's Proportion Post

Ratio - A relationship between two quantities, that have the same unit.
Ex: There are 16 ducks and 9 geese in a certain park. Express the ratio of ducks to geese in three ratios. 16:9, 16/9, 16 to 9
Rate - Two quantities measured in different units.
Ex: $0.56 per 50 grams or $0.56/50 grams.
Proportion - An equation which states that two ratios (fractions) are equal.

1) 5 hours to travel 360 is about 72 mph.
2) As a playground worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playground from 25ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the orange juice, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with. The orange juice would be 200 ml.

What are three ways you can prove that equivalent ration statements are true.
3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 or 4/9 = 16/32

1)
multiply top left to bottom right
multiply bottom left to top right

2)
divide top left by bottom left
divide top right by bottom right

3)
multiply top left with a number to equal top right
multiply bottom left with a number to equal bottom right

1) Does this seem fair?
No it is not far for this man.
2) With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just and fair? Why have you made this choice?
It would still be unfair for the man because stealing $100 in the bank and getting into prison for 15 years would be unfair for a man stealing $3 billion dollars and getting out of prison in 3.5 years. That would really be unfair for the poor man stealing 100 dollars.
3) What would you have done if you were the judge?
I would have the man who stole $3 billion dollars be in prison for 15 years and have the man stealing the $100 dollars be in prison for 2 months.
