Jennifer's Proportion Post

TASK 1

>

Ratio- A comparison of 2 quantities that have the same unit of measure.

Rate- A comparison of 2 quantities measured in different units.

Proportion- An equation which states that 2 ratios (fractions) are
equal.

TASK 2

1) 5 hours travel 360 is about 72 mph
(360 ÷ 5= 72) (1 hour= 72 miles)

2)As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

TASK 3

Prove that one of the ratios are correct.

4/9=16/32

FALSE, for it to be true, you must change 32 into 36.

1. Does it seem fair? No, it is not fair.
2. With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just fair? Why have you made this choice? It's not fair because the guy who schemed people $ 3 billion received a 3 year sentenced while Roy Brown, got a 15 year sentence for stealing a single $100 bill.
3. What would you have done if you were the judge? I would have made the guy who schemed people get the 15 year sentence, and I'll give Mr. Roy Brown about a year because he still did a crime but he stole only one bill and he turned himself in.
